David Lincoln to Retire as President/CEO of Covenant Health; Stephen Grubbs Named as Successor


TEWKSBURY, MA – March 7, 2019 – Covenant Health has announced David R. Lincoln, FACHE, will retire as president and chief executive officer on April 26, 2019, and that its board of directors has appointed long-time healthcare executive Stephen J. Grubbs to succeed him in both roles. Lincoln has served as president/CEO of since Covenant Health’s founding in 1986.

Grubbs joined Covenant Health in September 2018 as interim chief financial officer. Prior to joining Covenant Health, he spent the past 30 years of his career in various healthcare executive leadership roles around the country. These positions include president/CEO of Bay Medical Center in Texas and of Sacred Heart Health System in Florida, as well as CEO for Paris Regional Medical Center in Texas, Regional Hospital in Tennessee and other Community Health Systems, Inc. (CHS) network hospitals in Tennessee and Pennsylvania.

I’m pleased with our successful growth as a ministry to include 13 organizations with three hospitals, 10 post-acute care facilities and more than 6,500 employees.”

Louise Trottier, chairperson of the Covenant Health Board of Directors, praised Lincoln for his steadfast commitment to the organization.

“Over the past 35 years, health care has changed dramatically, and David has successfully led Covenant Health through more than one transformation,” she said. “This is David’s legacy and we are deeply grateful to him, and to his family, for all he has accomplished.”

Meanwhile, Trottier noted the need for strong leadership as Covenant, like all health care systems, faces the challenges of the changing industry landscape.

Mr. Grubbs earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Kentucky and his MBA from Bethel University. He will assume the role of CEO/President on April 27, 2019.
