St. Mary’s Health System Celebrates New Infusion Therapy Center with a Groundbreaking Ceremony

St. Mary's Infusion Center GroundbreakingLewiston, Maine – May 3, 2019 – St. Mary’s Health System recently celebrated the opening of its new Infusion Therapy Center with a groundbreaking ceremony.

Infusion therapy delivers intravenous medications to patients in need of prolonged treatment for chronic conditions including cancer, anemia, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis, gastrointestinal illnesses and hemophilia.

“At St. Mary’s, we’re thrilled to offer cutting-edge infusion therapies to our patients who suffer from neurologic, rheumatologic and oncologic diagnoses,” said Christopher Bowe, M.D., Chief Medical Officer & Vice President of Medical Affairs, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. “In our new facility, we will provide those treatments in a modern setting where access, comfort and amenities complement the excellent care.”

The new center will be built at 99 Campus Avenue in Lewiston, between the hospital and medical office building, to ensure patients convenient access to services and parking. The center also boasts a modern design that will minimize the risk of infection to patients with immune deficiency as well as accommodate patients with mobility issues.

The construction of the Infusion Therapy Center is part of a larger capital campaign. To date, the community has contributed $5.7 million toward the campaign goal of $6.5 million. Once the Center is finished, in spring 2020, the final phase of St. Mary's capital campaign, Making an Impact with Care & Compassion, will begin the construction of new space for adult inpatient behavioral health services.
