Covenant Health Names Brian G. Sweeney, D.O., FACEP, the Healthcare System’s Physician Advisor


Dr. Brian SweeneyToday, Covenant Health announced Brian G. Sweeney, D.O., FACEP, has been named the healthcare system’s Physician Advisor. Dr. Sweeney will work closely with Covenant’s medical leadership team to manage Care Coordination, which includes case management and social work, as well as Clinical Documentation Integrity and Improvement, which focuses on developing staff and implementing efforts to maximize hospital services for all patients while ensuring high-quality care. Dr. Sweeney previously held the position of Chair of Emergency Services at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, N.H., a member of Covenant Health.

“Dr. Sweeney’s considerable expertise and proven track record of success at the hospital makes him the ideal fit for the integral system role of Physician Advisor,” said Douglas C. Waite, M.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Covenant Health. “Dr. Sweeney will work closely with providers to develop management protocols that ensure high-quality patient care and shorten their hospital stay. He’ll also proactively manage resources and ensure documentation compliance standards are met. He’s sure to be a great asset to our leadership team.”

Dr. Sweeney holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Massachusetts. He received his Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City University of Medicine in Kansas City, Mo. Dr. Sweeney completed an internship at the University of Massachusetts’ Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Mass. and a residency in Emergency Medicine at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Mich. where he served as Chief Resident. He is the EMS Medical Director at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, N.H. and serves on the NH Medical Control Board for EMS. Dr. Sweeney is an active member of both the American College of Physician Advisors and American College of Emergency Physicians.
