Jake Redden, DHSc and FACHE, Joins Covenant Health as Its New Vice President of Quality Improvement and Safety


Jake ReddenToday, Covenant Health welcomed Jake Redden, DHSc and FACHE, as its new Vice President of Quality Improvement and Safety. He will provide leadership and direction to system-wide quality and safety programs, which specifically focus on the continuous improvement of quality of care; patient/resident safety and satisfaction; as well as overall efficiency.

“I’m pleased to welcome Jake to the team in this very important role. He’ll work collaboratively with senior management and physician leaders, at both the corporate and local levels, to design and implement operational strategies and tactics to improve outcomes,” said Douglas C. Waite, M.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Covenant Health. “Jake has a unique and strong combination of management, performance improvement and clinical experience. I’m confident he’ll immediately contribute to advancing our quality and safety programs by applying the principals of high reliability organizations.”

Prior to joining Covenant Health, Redden was the Vice President of Quality and Support Services at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron, S.D. where he was responsible for the operation, administration and evaluation of all the hospitals’ support divisions including Quality and Risk Management. He was also an Executive Director at UP Health-Marquette, a Duke Lifepoint Hospital in Marquette, Mich. Redden has considerable system experience gained through tenure at Inova Health Systems, a large system of five hospitals in Falls Church, VA, ranking at the top of U.S. News & World Report’s list of the region’s best hospitals. There he served as System Strategic Leader responsible for planning, continuous improvement of operations, resolving critical problems concerning operational, budget and patient flow in both inpatient and outpatient service lines.

In addition, Redden brings to this position experience as a Senior Executive Consultant and Leadership Coach at High Reliability Leaders in Sheridan, Wyo. where he closely worked with hospitals to improve their quality and safety programs. He also brings experience as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. and University of Maryland, University College in Adelphi, Md. 

Redden earned his Doctor of Health Sciences in Leadership and Organizational Behavior at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Ariz. He earned both his Master in Health Care Administration and Master in Public Health from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa. He holds undergraduate degrees in Applied Studies – Administration, Business Management and Computer Science. Redden is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a member of the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ).
